Cop shoots dead 4 colleagues inside Sri Lanka police station

Colombo, Dec 25 (EFE).- A Sri Lankan policeman allegedly killed four of his colleagues and wounded three in a shooting at a police station on Christmas eve, officials said Saturday.

Police arrested the suspect after the incident that took place inside the Thirukkovil police station on the eastern coast of the island on Friday night.

The motive behind the shooting was not clear as yet, police said.

Police spokesperson Nihal Thalduwa told reporters that the suspect turned himself in, along with two Type-56 assault rifles and 19 rounds of ammunition at a different police station.

He said the accused was at the police station on Friday night when he forcefully grabbed a gun belonging to an officer on duty and opened fire at his colleagues.

Among the injured was the officer in charge of the police station.

He has also shot at a police jeep.

“He drove to his village in his private car and turned himself in at the police station there,” Thalduwa said. EFE
