COP26: Tens of thousands protest in Glasgow for climate justice

Glasgow, UK, Nov 6 (EFE).- Tens of thousands of people on Saturday braved the Scottish rain to march through the streets of Glasgow calling on leaders at the United Nations COP26 climate conference, which is being held in the city, to take stronger action against climate change.

The rally got underway at Kelvingrove Park, in the vicinity of the venue where COP26  summit is being hosted, and made its way toward Glasgow Green park.

Similar protests are to take place in 200 cities around the world, including Seoul, Rio de Janeiro, Manila, Mexico, Lisbon, Los Angeles and Nairobi.

The protest comes a day after some 25,000 youth activists, with Sweden activist Greta Thunberg on the forefront, took to the streets of the city to call on the politicians for an immediate solution to the climate crisis.

During a speech after Friday’s march, Thunberg described the summit as a “failure” and a “PR event” where world leaders offer hollow promises on climate action. EFE
