Manchester City, Barça announce motor neuron disease charity match

Barcelona, Spain, Jun 20 (EFE).- FC Barcelona and Manchester City will play a benefit match at the Camp Nou on August 24 to raise research funds and awareness around motor neuron disease.

Barça president Joan Laporta and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, a Barcelona legend, launched the event at a ceremony on Monday along with former player Juan Carlos Unzué, who has MND, also known as Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and promoted the friendly.

Unzué, a former player and manager, revealed that he had MND in June 2020 and had originally planned for the charity friendly to go ahead in August last year, although the date had to be delayed due to the pandemic.

Guardiola, who managed Barça between 2008-12, said it was an honor for his Manchester City team to take part in the match.

Funds from the match will go to the Fundación Luzón with tickets listed at between 19-99 euros. EFE
