Nearly 3.5 million Ukrainians flee country since Russian invasion

Geneva, Mar 21 (EFE).- Some 3.48 million Ukrainians, mostly women, children and elders, have fled their country since the Russian invasion began nearly a month ago, the United Nations Refugee Agency announced on Monday.

Poland has received over two million refugees, while hundreds of thousands have headed to neighboring Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, the UN report said.

The flow of refugees has slightly slowed down over the past couple of weeks, although it remains unabated.

The UN fears it might gain momentum following recent attacks in western Ukraine, which had not been heavily targeted, making it a refuge for Ukrainians coming from the east.

Some 10 million Ukrainians, nearly a quarter of the country’s population, have been forced to leave their homes, according to the UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi. EFE
