Memphis Is Celebrating Christmas Again

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — In the past year, many events had to be canceled due to the coronavirus. This year, and although we are still in the midst of a pandemic, the reality is very different: thanks to vaccines and the decrease in COVID-19 cases, the spirit of Christmas is once again felt stronger than ever in Memphis and its surroundings. Once again, we will be able to enjoy the Christmas parades and festivals, visit Santa Claus and, most importantly, celebrate together with our family and friends without fear of getting infected.
For this reason, La Prensa Latina has put together a list with the best events that will be taking place in the city to celebrate the holidays, always remembering that Christmas is a time of love, peace, union, joy, family reunions, reconciliation, reflection, and gratitude for the birth of Baby Jesus. These events are the following:
* TRUIST ZOO LIGHTS: November 12, 2021 – January 1, 2022
Take the whole family to the Memphis Zoo at night to greet Santa Claus, skate on ice and enjoy a wide variety of beautiful ornaments and Christmas lights. You will also be able to see some of the animals.
Notably, the “SunTrust Zoo Lights,” now “Truist Zoo Lights,” has become an annual tradition for families in Memphis. Not only that, as it is also an event that has been recognized for being one of the top 20 best holiday zoo lights displays in the country, according to USA Today.
On the other hand, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the limit of people will be 4,000 each night. The Memphis Zoo will be closed on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day (December 24 and 25).

* CHRISTMAS AT GRACELAND: November 18, 2021 – January 9, 2022
Christmas was one of Elvis’s favorite times of the year, so the Graceland Mansion and gardens will be beautifully decorated for the occasion with lights and beautiful ornaments. The grand celebration will kick off on November 18 with Graceland’s traditional annual lighting ceremony, followed by a series of holiday concerts, one-of-a-kind tours of the mansion, and other special activities to end the weekend on a high note. The “Holiday Lighting Ceremony” is free to the general public, and will take place at Graceland Plaza Green, Elvis Presley’s Memphis, at 6 PM. The concerts, for which tickets are between $20 and $45, will take place at the Soundstage at Graceland on Friday and Saturday, at 7 PM, and the tours of the mansion will be offered on Saturday, from 4 PM to 5:30 PM, for $90 (adults) and $58 (children ages 5-10) – children under 4 years old can get in for free.
After the “Holiday Lighting Weekend at Graceland” (November 18-20), you can continue to admire the magic of Christmas at this iconic Memphis location.

* THE ENCHANTED FOREST AT MoSH: November 20, 2021 – December 31, 2021
You cannot miss “The Enchanted Forest Festival” at the Museum of Science & History (MoSH), formerly known as the Pink Palace Museum and located at 3050 Central Ave., Memphis, TN. Being a Memphis Christmas tradition, the Enchanted Forest is filled with charming, animated characters; as well as model trains, snowmen, Christmas figures, gingerbread villas, and dozens of beautifully decorated trees.
The history of “The Enchanted Forest Festival” dates back to 1963, when it debuted at the Goldsmith’s department store in Downtown Memphis. The exhibit was inspired by Walt Disney’s “It’s a Small World” exhibit at the New York World’s Fair. In the 1990s, it merged with Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital Christmas Tree Festival.

Being the largest holiday light show and festival in the city, “Starry Nights” has become a Christmas tradition for many families in the Mid-South. The extensive display of illuminated figures, along with a wide variety of entertainment available for both adults and children, makes the occasion suitable for everyone, without exception, to feel the magic of the Christmas spirit.

This year’s Christmas celebration at the Memphis Botanic Garden is bigger and brighter than ever, with four different attractions in one place: Snowy Nights, Under the Stars Outdoor Lounge, Yuletide Yard, and Northern Lights. There will also be other special events including “Santa Sunday,” “Mistletoe Monday,” “Snow Queens,” “Santa Paws,” and much more.

*TRUIST ZOO LIGHTS: 12 de noviembre del 2021 – 1 de enero del 2022
Lleva a toda la familia al Zoológico de Memphis de noche para saludar a Santa Claus, patinar sobre hielo y apreciar su amplia variedad de ornamentos y luces de Navidad. También podrás ver a algunos de los animales.
Cabe destacar que el “SunTrust Zoo Lights”, ahora “Truist Zoo Lights”, se ha convertido en una tradición anual para las familias de Memphis. No sólo eso, ya que también es un evento que ha sido reconocido a nivel nacional por estar entre las diez mejores exposiciones de luces navideñas realizadas en un zoológico, según USA Today.
Por otro lado, debido a la pandemia del coronavirus, el límite de personas será de 4.000 cada noche. El Zoológico de Memphis estará cerrado en Nochebuena y en Navidad (24 y 25 de diciembre).

La Navidad era una de las épocas favoritas del año de Elvis, por lo que la Mansión de Graceland y sus jardines estarán hermosamente decorados para la ocasión, con todo y luces. La gran celebración comenzará el 18 de noviembre con la tradicional ceremonia anual de iluminación de Graceland, seguida de una serie de conciertos navideños, recorridos únicos por la mansión y otras actividades especiales para terminar el fin de semana con broche de oro. La “Ceremonia de Luces Navideñas” es gratis para el público en general y tendrá lugar en Graceland Plaza Green, Elvis Presley’s Memphis, a las 6 PM. No te puedes perder el “Festival del Bosque Encantado” en el Museo de Ciencias e Historia (The Museum of Science & History/MoSH), conocido anteriormente como el Pink Palace Museum y ubicado en el 3050 Central Ave. Memphis, TN. Siendo una tradición navideña de Memphis, el “Bosque Encantado” está lleno de encantadores personajes animados, maquetas de trenes, muñecos de nieve, figuras navideñas, villas de jengibre y decenas de árboles que están hermosamente decorados.
La historia del “Festival del Bosque Encantado” (“The Enchanted Forest”) se remonta a 1963, cuando debutó en los grandes almacenes de Goldsmith’s, en el centro de Memphis.
