6 Injured in partial crane collapse in New York City

New York, Jul 26 (EFE).- Six people were slightly injured when a construction crane atop a 45-story building caught fire Wednesday morning and partially collapsed onto a street in Midtown Manhattan, firefighters said at the scene.

Videos taken by passers-by on 41st Street in the Hudson Yards neighborhood, near Madison Square Garden, show a blaze at the top part of the crane.

That machine’s boom then split in two, with its upper section – and the 16-ton load it was carrying – striking a neighboring building located on 10th Avenue before dramatically crashing to the ground.

“This is a good morning. This could have been a lot worse,” Joseph Pfeifer, the first deputy commissioner of the New York City Fire Department, said at a news conference.

He added that two firefighters and four pedestrians were slightly injured in the accident. EFE
