Princess Leonor waves goodbye to Spain as she heads to UK school

Madrid, Aug 30 (EFE).- Spain’s King and Queen waved goodbye to their eldest daughter Princess Leonor who on Monday starts a new chapter in Wales, where she will complete her sixth form education at the international UWC Atlantic College boarding school.

Pictures released by the monarchs showed the Princess of Asturias hugging her sister Infanta Sofia and parents at Madrid’s international airport ahead of her flight to the United Kingdom.

The princess completed her primary and secondary education at Santa Maria de los Rosales private school in Madrid, where her father King Felipe VI studied as a boy.

The heiress to the throne, who will turn 16 on 31 October, is expected to combine her studies in Wales with her institutional activity in Spain.

She will be completing the International Baccalaureate, which encourages an international view of the world through education.

Some 70% of the approximately 360 students at UWC have a partial or full scholarship.

In Leonor’s case, the King and Queen announced that they would pay the full cost of 67,000 pounds (some 76,500 euros) for the two-year baccalaureate.EFE
