Cristiano Ronaldo says he feels ‘betrayed’ by Manchester United

Sports Desk, Nov 14 (EFE).- Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has said he feels “betrayed” by Manchester United and that the club was trying to force him out.

In an explosive interview with British journalist Piers Morgan for TalkTV on Sunday, the forward took aim at current manager Erik ten Hag, as well as the previous manager Ralf Rangnick and his former teammate Wayne Rooney.

Asked whether he felt he was being forced out of the club, Ronaldo responded: “Yes, not only the coach but (also) the other two or three guys that are around the club.”

“I feel betrayed,” he added.

“Some people don’t want me here, not only this year but last year, too,” said Ronaldo, 37, who returned to Manchester United in 2021 having made his name as a global star with the club between 2003-09.

Ronaldo spoke about ten Hag, saying: “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect to me.”

He also slammed ten Hag’s predecessor, Rangnick, describing him as “not even a coach.”

Ronaldo was suspended from the first team last month by ten Hag after refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur.

His behavior at the club prompted criticism from former teammate Wayne Rooney.

Ronaldo responded Sunday: “I don’t know why he criticizes me so badly.

“Probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level. I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true.”

Ronaldo first joined Manchester United in 2003, arriving from Sporting to play under Sir Alex Ferguson and cement his name as one of the world’s best players.

In 2009, he moved to Real Madrid where his dizzying trajectory reached new heights.

With four Champions League titles under his belt, Ronaldo moved to Juventus in 2018, where he won two Serie A titles. EFE
