Joselu double sends Real Madrid to top LaLiga

Sports Desk, Feb 2 (EFE).- Forward Joselu made the most of Carlo Ancelotti’s rotation policy to score a brace and earn Real Madrid a 2-0 win over Getafe, sending the club to the top of the Spanish LaLiga on Thursday.

Replacing Rodrygo in Real’s attack as one of the seven changes from the previous match, Joselu, who has now scored 13 goals in all competitions this season, proved he deserved more regular chances, by scoring in both halves of the game.

Madrid put the pressure on from the beginning at Getafe’s Coliseum as Joselu hit the crossbar and Vinícius came one-on-one, with goalkeeper Soria being thwarted.

However, it did not take them much time to take the lead as Joselu jumped over defender Domingos Duarte to score from a neat header in the 14th minute after Lucas Vázquez fed him with a cross from the right.

Ancelotti was forced to reorganize his defense after German defender Rudiger left the field injured after a collision with Greenwood on the stroke of halftime.

Joselu made it 2-0 in 56 minutes after a pass from Vinicius and could have grabbed his third seven minutes later had he not decided to reciprocate the gesture to the Brazilian, whose shot was saved by the goalkeeper.

“We are in good spirits and the team is motivated. We fought and battled and we handled the game very well, which wasn’t easy,” said Real coach Ancelotti.

The Italian coach also heaped praise on Joselu.

“Joselu is doing everything he needs to do to stay. He’s doing spectacularly. It’s a blessing to have a striker of this quality,” he said.

The win ended Getafe’s unbeaten run in LaLiga at their home ground after six wins and three draws.

It also extended Real Madrid’s unbeaten streak to 16 matches, which included 13 wins, earning the side 57 points, two clear of second-placed Girona. EFE
