Barcelona, Aug 28 (EFE).- Crowds of people in Barcelona partied in the Sants neighborhood with no masks and little social distancing despite an aggressive fifth wave of coronavirus in the Catalonia region positioning it at a high risk level.
The risk level decreased by ten points since Friday, but is still at 193 points, some 100 points above the high risk level threshold.
Hospitalizations have also slowed in Catalonia’s health care system, which was at the brink of collapse with over 2,000 news admittances a day.
The 14-day incidence rate in Spain is 264 cases per 100,000 people but with an increasing death toll.
On Friday, the health ministry reported 9,489 new infections and 139 deaths.
Some 68.4% of Spain’s population have received the full course of the Covid-19 vaccine. EFE
