Japan to host G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in November

Tokyo, Sep 19 (EFE).- Japan, the current chair of the G7, is set to host a new meeting of the group’s foreign ministers in November, Japanese foreign minister Yoko Kamikawa announced on Tuesday.

The top diplomats of the G7 countries have decided to hold the meeting in Tokyo on Nov. 7 and 8, Kamikawa told the Japanese press in New York, where she is set to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Kamikawa, making her international debut as foreign minister after being appointed to the post on Nov. 13, made the announcement soon after meeting her G7 counterparts in the United States, with the Ukraine war dominating the agenda.

The topics under discussions included China and the release of treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

On Monday, the Japanese foreign minister also met the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, and subsequently the two reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The November event will be the second in-person meeting of the G7 top diplomats in Japan after a summit held in Karuizawa, northwest of Tokyo, in April.

Tokyo has also organized several virtual meetings of the group throughout this year. EFE
