At least 3 killed in Taliban operation against IS in Afghanistan

Kabul, Dec 22 (EFE).- At least three alleged members of the extremist group Islamic State (IS) were killed and another was arrested in an operation by the Taliban security forces in an unspecified area of Afghanistan.

“In an operation of special force on a hideout of the rebels three Daesh (ISIS) members were killed and one important member arrested,” tweeted Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid.

He added that “explosives, hand grenades, and three AK-47s” were also seized during the operation.

Since returning to power last year, the Taliban have carried out several operations against the IS in different parts of the country, in an attempt to ensure the security guarantees they had committed to providing before the US pullout of the country.

A similar operation was carried out in November at an IS hideout in the Afghan capital, in which at least five suspected IS members implicated in recent small-scale explosions in Kabul were killed.

In October, another special operation was reported in Kabul, which claimed the lives of seven other alleged members of the extremist group.

Nevertheless, extremist attacks continue in different parts of the country, the deadliest of them at Kabul airport in August 2021, which caused some 170 deaths. EFE
