CUUV realizará vigilia para exigir la liberación de Manuel Durán, quien está bajo la custodia de ICE
Immigrant Rights Groups Hold Vigil to Demand Release of Manuel Duran in ICE Custody
MEMPHIS, TN (CUUV/LPL) — El 10 de abril, Comunidades Unidas en Una Voz (CUUV) realizará una vigilia en El Mercadito de Memphis para exigir la liberación inmediata del periodista Manuel Durán, quien se encuentra bajo la custodia de ICE (Inmigración y Aduanas) en estos momentos.
En un comunicado, la organización pro-inmigrante dice: “Durán fue arrestado negligentemente por el Departamento de Policía de Memphis el 3 de abril mientras cubría una acción en la cárcel 201 Poplar que intentaba concienciar sobre los abusos de la industria penitenciaria con fines de lucro. Aunque los cargos fueron retirados, la oficina del Sheriff de Shelby Co. decidió entregar voluntariamente al periodista a ICE en la cárcel cuando iba a ser liberado. Pediremos a las autoridades que corrijan este error”.
“Una vigilia interreligiosa para denunciar el abuso de poder y la colaboración con ICE (tanto activa como pasivamente) de nuestras agencias locales de aplicación de la ley y exigir la liberación inmediata del periodista de Memphis Manuel Durán de la custodia de ICE”.
La vigilia se llevará a cabo en El Mercadito, 3766 Ridgeway Rd, Memphis, TN 38115, mañana martes, 10 de abril del 2018, a las 6:00 p.m.

MEMPHIS, TN (CUUV) — On April 10th, Comunidades Unidas en Una Voz (CUUV) will hold a vigil at El Mercadito in Memphis to demand the immediate release of journalist Manuel Duran from ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) custody.
In a statement the pro-immigrant organization says “Duran was negligently arrested by the Memphis Police Department on April 3rd while he was covering an action at 201 Poplar that attempted to bring awareness about the abuses of the for-profit prison industry. Although the charges were dropped, the Shelby Co. Sheriff’s office decided to voluntarily hand the journalist to ICE at the jail when he was to be released. We will be asking for authorities to right this wrong.
An interfaith vigil to denounce the abuse of power and the collaboration with ICE (both actively and passively) of our local law enforcement agencies and to demand the immediate release of the Memphis journalist Manuel Duran from ICE custody.”
The vigil will be held Tomorrow Tuesday, April 10th, 2018 at 6:00 pm. at El Mercadito, 3766 Ridgeway Rd, Memphis, TN 38115.
