Piastri to replace Alonso at Alpine

Madrid, Aug 2 (EFE).- Oscar Piastri will replace Fernando Alonso at Alpine when the Spanish driver moves to Aston Martin next season.

“After four years as part of the Renault and Alpine family, Reserve Driver Oscar Piastri is promoted to a race seat alongside Esteban Ocon starting from 2023,” Alpine said in a statement on Twitter on Tuesday.

The Australian, who claimed the Formula 2 title in 2021, replaces two-time world champion Alonso, who announced on Monday that he would be joining Aston Martin at the beginning of the new season.

The Spaniard will take over from four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who announced his own plans to retire by the season’s end. EFE
