Christo’s dream of wrapping Arc de Triomphe about to come true

Paris, Sep 11 (EFE).- As the work to wrap the Arc de Triomphe nears completion, artist Christo’s nephew Vladimir Javacheff is “excited” to be able to make his uncle’s dream that began in 1961 come true.

“I trust that, if it remains as in the drawings, the work will be fine,” Javacheff told Efe from a Paris roof terrace from where the work can be observed. “I think it will be as Christo would have liked”.

The artist, whose full name was Christo Vladimirov Javacheff, died last year shortly after the French authorities granted the final permits for the project, leaving the mission to his nephew, with whom he worked for 31 years.

“The hardest part for me is that Christo is not here. I miss him. We all wish he was here,” he said.

The project will cover the Arc de Triomphe between 18 September and 3 October with metallic gray fabric, where red ribbons will be placed in a style resembling gift wrapping paper. EFE
