Dane Viktor Axelsen wins third European badminton gold at Madrid final

Madrid, Apr 30 (EFE).- Top seed Viktor Axelsen, Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020, won the final of the European Badminton Championships in Madrid on Saturday against fellow Dane Anders Antonsen.

Axelsen, 28, recovered the European title he lost to Antonsen in 2021 in Kyiv, whom he defeated in 43 minutes 21-17 and 21-15 at the Madrid final.

The Danish player, the first non-Asian badminton professional to win an Olympic gold medal in the last 25 years, completed a great tournament in the Spanish capital without dropping a set in his matches against Frenchman Alex Lanier, German Max Weisskirchen, Israeli Misha Zilberman and Anders Antonsen, who secured a silver medal.

The European bronze medals went to the Israeli Misha Zilberman and Frenchman Toma Junior Popov.

This European Championship is the third that Axelsen has conquered in his sporting career after his victories in La Roche-sur-Yon (France) in 2016, and Huelva (Spain) in 2018. EFE
