Dani Alves makes Barça return: I will not fail the fans

Barcelona, Spain, Nov 17 (EFE).- Brazilian defender Dani Alves thanked Barcelona fans for their welcome during his presentation at the Camp Nou Wednesday following his return to the club after six years and promised he would not let them down.

The 38-year-old right-back returns to the Catalan giants at the behest of new head coach — and Barça legend — Xavi Hernandez and is likely to be deployed for his leadership qualities in a predominantly youthful dressing room.

“The fans know the respect I have always had for them, for the colors that I represent, and I would show my appreciation towards all of them, and it’s been great meeting them again.

“I can guarantee that I’m not going to fail them,” he told a press conference after his presentation in front of fans gathered at the stadium.

Xavi hopes to turn around a team that has fallen from the heady heights of its yesteryear, but will have minimal funds to do so.

Barcelona are currently sitting in 9th position in LaLiga following a slew of poor results that spelled an early end to the management of Ronald Koeman.

Alves donned the Barça shirt as a player between 2008-16, playing alongside Xavi and others like Lionel Messi, as well as Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets, who both remain at the club.

During this time he lifted six league titles and three Champions League trophies.

Although he has signed for the club once more, Alves will not be eligible to play until 2022.EFE
