Daughter of billionaire Zara founder named chairwoman of parent company

Madrid, Nov 30 (EFE).- The Inditex fashion group has named Marta Ortega, the 37-year-old daughter of the company’s billionaire founder Amancio Ortega, as the next chairwoman of the retail multinational best-known for its flagship chain Zara.

Inditex said in a statement Tuesday that Marta Ortega would replace Pablo Isa, who has served as chairman since 2011, starting from 1 April 2022.

Marta Ortega has spent the last 15 years gaining experience in various Inditex operations, most notably in Zara, where she has strengthened the brand’s image and fashion outlook, the statement said.

“I have always said that I would dedicate my life to developing the legacy of my parents, looking to the future but also learning from the past, in the service of the company, our shareholders and our clients wherever I am most needed,” Marta Ortega said.

Outgoing chairman Isa said the change marked the culmination of a transition in the company.

One of the largest retailers in the world, Inditex owns Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka and Stradivarius.

Amancio Ortega, Spain’s wealthiest person, is the 11th richest in the world with an estimated net worth of $77 billion, according to the latest Forbes rich list. EFE
