David Alaba inherits number 4 jersey from Sergio Ramos

Madrid, Jul 21 (EFE).- David Alaba, Real Madrid’s first signing of the 2021/22 season, will wear the number 4 jersey that former captain Sergio Ramos donned for the last 16 years before his departure for Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The Austrian defender, who has signed a five-year contract, was introduced this Wednesday as a new Real Madrid player and posed with the white jersey along with the club’s president, Florentino Pérez. Alaba was joined by his parents, his sister and his son.

“Hello everyone. Thank you for the warm welcome,” Alaba, 29, said in Spanish.

After that, he switched to English and recognized today was “a big day” in his career.

“I’m very excited to be here and I’m proud to be wearing this shirt. I hope we can be very successful together.”

Alaba will be a versatile signing for coach Carlo Ancelotti. He can play in various positions in defense and even as a midfielder.

Pérez said Real Madrid was glad to welcome “an extraordinary football player” who has won over 25 titles with his former team, Bayern Munich, including two Champions Leagues and 10 Bundesliga titles. EFE
