Lake Buena Vista, US, Sep 20 (efe-epa).- Center Anthony Davis’ buzzer-beating three-pointer took the Los Angeles Lakers to a 105-103 win against the Denver Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida on Sunday.
The Los Angeles team now has a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Davis finished the game with 31 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks as the Lakers’ leading scorer.
“I want those shots. I want the big-time plays,” Davis said after the game when asked about his winning shot.
The starting center proved to be the Lakers’ savior after scoring 22 points in the second half, including the team’s last 10, when the Nuggets made another comeback attempt that was this time thwarted by Davis’ brilliance.
The Nuggets had fallen behind by 16 points but Serbian center Nikola Jokic scored 11 straight points in a row for the Denver team in the final stretch, including a basket that put the score at 103-102 with 20 seconds of play remaining.
Reserve point guard Alex Caruso missed a three-pointer and Jamal Murray blocked Danny Green’s shot out of bounds with 2.1 seconds to play.
Rajon Rondo got under the basket and found Davis on the sideline and the All-Star forward made a quick throw to get the Lakers halfway through to the NBA Finals.
Star forward LeBron James put up a double-double of 26 points, shooting 5-of-6 from the field, 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks to play his part in the Lakers’ win.
Green and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope finished with 11 points each to complete the list of the four Lakers players with double-digit scores.
Jokic led the attack for the Nuggets with 30 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals, while Murray finished with another 25 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Reserve Michael Porter Jr., with 15 points and four rebounds, was the third player on the Denver team to finish with a double-digit score.
