Ukraine’s counteroffensive inflicts significant damage on Russian military: Kyiv

Kyiv, July 4 (EFE).- The Ukrainian counteroffensive is currently focused on causing “maximum destruction” to Russia, one of Ukraine’s top security officials said on Tuesday.

Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, said the military’s primary objective was to maximize the destruction of manpower, equipment, fuel depots, military vehicles, command posts, artillery, and air defense forces of the Russian army.

“The last few days have been particularly fruitful. Now the war of destruction is equal to the war of kilometers. More destruction means more liberation. The more effective the former, the more effective the latter. We are acting calmly, wisely, step by step.”

Ukraine initiated the counteroffensive on June 4 in an attempt to recapture territories lost in the war against Russia.

According to the defense ministry, the Ukrainian military had regained control of over 150 square kilometers in the south. The army has made progress in the vicinity of Bakhmut on the eastern front.

The Ukrainian authorities have consistently emphasized that the current phase of the counteroffensive aims to identify weak points in Russian defenses.

Meanwhile, the battle for control over Bakhmut has intensified, with the Ukrainian defense ministry reporting rapid changes in the situation on the eastern front.

“Control over the same positions (in Bakhmut) can be lost and regained twice a day,” Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar wrote on her Telegram channel.

Maliar stated that Russian forces attempted to advance on Bakhmut on Monday “but without success.”

She revealed that Bakhmut has been embroiled in intense fighting, with Russian forces constantly firing in an attempt to disrupt logistics and inflict maximum losses on the Ukrainian side.

“Meanwhile, our defenders prevent the enemy from maneuvering within the city and strike enemy positions with fire.”

Maliar claimed that Russian forces have achieved some success, with the Russian military actively responding to Ukrainian actions and establishing three lines of defense in threatening directions.

The deputy defense minister also mentioned Ukrainian combat and advances in the Klishchivka area on the southern flank of Bakhmut.

“Our troops are engaged in battle and making progress on the southern flank in the Klishchiivka area. The fighting is ongoing.” EFE
