The Hague, May 26 (EFE).- The Dutch soccer federation on Wednesday announced its 26-man squad for the Euro 2020.
Coach Frank de Boer dropped eight players from the preliminary squad he announced a couple of weeks ago.
Ajax’s defender Daley Blind made the cut despite an injury that has kept him on the sideline since March.
The Netherlands will have to do without Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, who was tore knee ligaments in October and announced a couple of weeks ago he would not take part in the tournament.
The squad features Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, as well as Georginio Wijnaldum, who is expected to move to the Camp Nou after his contract at Liverpool expired this season.
The Dutch team, which missed Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, will kick off their Euro 2020 campaign against Ukraine on 13 June in Group C that includes Austria and North Macedonia.
They will hope to build on their good 2018-2019 Nations League run that saw them reach the final, only to lose to Portugal.
Their revival was overseen by coach Ronald Koeman, who joined Barcelona in 2020.
The roster is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Jasper Cillessen (Valencia), Tim Krul (Norwich City) and Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax).
