De Bruyne, Mahrez power Manchester City to 4-1 win over Man. United

London, Mar 6 (EFE).- Braces from both Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez on Sunday led Manchester City to a 4-1 win over their cross-city rivals Manchester United.

Man City took the lead just five minutes into the action, when the Belgian seized on a low cross from Bernardo Silva for his 50th Premier League goal.

United, missing Cristiano Ronaldo due to a hip issue, got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute, when Jadon Sancho fired from the edge of the penalty area.

Six minutes later, however, De Bruyne complete his brace as he punished United for sloppy defense.

Mahrez scored Man. City’s third goal off a corner by De Bruyne in the 68th minute, and he then rounded off the victory a minute into second-half stoppage time, a shot that was allowed after the VAR.

City’s ninth victory over United since coach Pep Guardiola took the helm in 2016 strengthened their grip on the top spot of the Premier League table with 69 points, six ahead of second-placed Liverpool.

United, meanwhile, are in the No. 5 spot with 47 points.
