Deadly explosion rocks downtown Istanbul

Istanbul, Nov 13 (EFE).- At least six people have been killed and 53 wounded on Sunday after a blast in a busy commercial street in Istanbul, president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a televised address.

Erdogan described the blast as a “bomb attack” on Istiklal avenue and said the incident occurred at 4:20 p.m. (1:20 p.m. GMT).

The Turkish president vowed to punish the perpetrators of the attack and offered his condolences to those affected.

“Four people died at the scene and two in the hospital; there are six dead and 53 wounded according to the latest information,” the president added.

Nobody has claimed the attack, and Turkish authorities have banned news stations from reporting on the explosion. EFE
