MPD lleva a cabo las operaciones “Limpieza de Primavera” y “No Creyentes”
MPD Carries Operation Spring Cleaning and Operation Non-Believers
MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/MPD) — Como parte de un esfuerzo continuo para reducir el crimen violento en toda la ciudad de Memphis, los miembros de la Unidad de Crimen Organizado del Departamento de Policía de Memphis, junto con los de la Unidad de Pandillas de Múltiples Agencias y la Unidad TACT de MPD llevaron a cabo un operativo que duró seis semanas y en el aplicaron la ley en áreas de alta criminalidad alrededor de la ciudad. Este operativo fue llamado “Operación Limpieza de Primavera”, y se enfocó en la detención y el arresto de personas involucradas en la posesión ilegal de narcóticos y posesión ilegal de armas de fuego, así como fugitivos y sospechosos que cometieron delitos violentos.
La “Operación Limpieza de Primavera” comenzó el 27 de abril del 2019 y concluyó el 7 de junio del mismo año. Los detectives involucrados en esta operación realizaron 190 arrestos por delitos graves y 129 arrestos por delitos menores. También emitieron 21 citaciones por delitos menores dentro de un período de 31 días laborables.
Del total de los 340 arrestos realizados, 196 fueron criminales fugitivos y 98 estaban relacionados con drogas. Los detectives recuperaron aproximadamente 19 libras de marihuana; 188,4 gramos de metanfetaminas; 8,0 gramos de heroína; 41,90 gramos de cocaína crack y 79 pastillas de Lortab. Asimismo, se recuperaron 77 armas de fuego (67 pistolas y 10 armas largas). Los detectives confiscaron 20 vehículos y $69.898 en efectivo incautado a los arrestados con drogas.
26 de los acusados arrestados por cargos relacionados con armas son convictos criminales. Estos acusados se enfrentan a un proceso federal y/o estatal por poseer un arma de fuego.
De estos 26 acusados, 11 de ellos eran miembros de pandillas callejeras conocidas como los Bloods, los Crips y los Vice Lords.
De las 77 armas de fuego que fueron recuperadas, al menos 29 eran robadas: 7 fueron tomadas durante un robo residencial y 22 fueron tomadas durante un robo vehicular. Estas armas fueron robadas en las áreas de Memphis, Bartlett, Collierville, Shelby County, Mississippi, Arkansas y Georgia.
En cuanto a la “Operación No Creyentes”, ésta comenzó en enero del 2019. Los miembros de la Unidad de Crimen Organizado del Departamento de Policía de Memphis identificaron a Darius Chalmers y a otros conspiradores como distribuidores de heroína y fentanilo de nivel medio a alto. Durante la investigación, los detectives identificaron a 30 personas (22 hombres y 8 mujeres) que conspiraron para distribuir hasta medio kilogramo de heroína y fentanilo por semana en Memphis y el norte de Mississippi. Más de 16 de estas personas fueron arrestadas el lunes, 3 de junio del presente año.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/MPD) — As part of a continuing effort to reduce violent crime throughout the city of Memphis, members of the Memphis Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit, the Multi-Agency Gang Unit, and the MPD TACT Unit conducted a six-week proactive enforcement detail in the high crime areas throughout the city. This operation was coined as “Operation Spring Cleaning.” It focused on the apprehension and arrest of individuals involved in illegal narcotics possession, illegal firearms possession, wanted parties, and suspects who committed violent crimes.
“Operation Spring Cleaning” began on April 27th, of 2019, and concluded on June 7th, of 2019. The detectives involved in this operation made 190 felony arrests, 129 misdemeanor arrests, and issued 21 misdemeanor citations within a 31 work day period.
Of the 340 total arrest made, 196 were wanted parties and 98 were drug related. Detectives recovered approximately 19 lbs. of marijuana, 188.4 grams of methamphetamines, 8.0 grams of heroin, 41.90 grams of crack cocaine, 79 Lortab pills, and recovered 77 firearms (67- handguns and 10- long guns). Detectives seized 20 vehicles and $69,898 cash as suspected drug proceeds.
26 of the defendants arrested for weapon related charges are convicted felons. These defendants are facing federal and/or state level prosecution for possessing a firearm.
Of these 26 defendants, 11 were documented gang members affiliated with known street gangs such as the Bloods, the Crips, and the Vice Lords.
Of the 77 firearms that were recovered, there were at least 29 reported stolen: 7 were taken during a residential burglary and 22 were taken during a vehicle burglary. These weapons were stolen from Memphis, Bartlett, Collierville, Shelby County, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Georgia.
“Operation Non-Believers,” on the other hand, started in January 2019. Members of the Memphis Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit identified Darius Chalmers and several other co-conspirators as being high to mid-level distributors of heroin and fentanyl. During the investigation, detectives identified 30 individuals who conspired in distributing as much as a half kilogram of heroin and fentanyl per week in Memphis and Northern Mississippi.
On Wednesday, May 29th, 2019, a detective presented the Shelby County Grand jury with the facts of this investigation. The 30 individuals involved in this investigation (22 men and 8 women) were each indicted on four felony counts of:
- Conspiracy: unlawful possession of a controlled substance 150g or more to sell in a drug-free school zone;
- Conspiracy: unlawful possession of a controlled substance 150g or more to deliver in a drug free school zone;
- Conspiracy: unlawful possession of a controlled substance 2,000g or more to sell in a drug free school zone;
- Conspiracy: unlawful possession of a controlled substance 2,000g or more to deliver in a drug free school zone.
All are A-level felonies, each of which carries (15) to (25) years in prison without parole.
On Monday, June 3, 2019, the Organized Crime Unit conducted a roundup operation to locate and arrest these individuals. Detectives arrested 16 of the 30 individuals indicted. There were also 2 additional individuals arrested for unrelated drug charges.
