FBI: Man Fled, Later Surrendered After ICE Agents Opened Fire in Antioch
TENNESSEE (LPL/Tennessean) — Agentes de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas dispararon e hirieron a un hombre que conducía una camioneta afuera de la tienda Food Lion en Antioch el jueves por la mañana, dijo un portavoz del FBI.
El portavoz de ICE, Bryan Cox, dijo que alrededor de las 7 a.m., los agentes de ICE intentaron detener un vehículo para arrestar a un ciudadano mexicano de 39 años que había sido deportado varias veces desde los EE.UU.
En algún momento durante la parada fuera del negocio en el domicilio 936 Richards Road, el hombre intentó huir y condujo hacia un oficial, dijo Cox.
“Cuando el hombre se dio cuenta de que los oficiales eran agentes de inmigración, huyó de la escena, conduciendo hacia uno de los oficiales que estaba parado frente al camión”, dijo Cox. “No estoy seguro de si él (el agente) tuvo que zambullirse o salió lastimado”.
Según el FBI, que lidera la investigación, ese agente disparó dos veces contra el camión.
El hombre escapó de la escena en el camión, que más tarde fue encontrado en el camino de un parque de casas móviles en Honolulu Road, justo al lado de Waikiki Boulevard, dijo Cox.
El hombre se entregó al FBI el jueves por la tarde, dijo un portavoz de ICE.
El hombre de 39 años, que es de Veracruz, sufrió dos heridas de bala y se encontraba en condición estable en un hospital de Nashville el jueves por la noche, dijo el abogado de inmigración Andrew Free.
Hasta el jueves por la noche no estaba bajo arresto, dijo el agente especial del FBI Joel Siskovic, y el FBI no estaba divulgando información adicional sobre su rendición.
El camión fue encontrado con al menos dos agujeros de bala y sangre adentro, dijeron las autoridades.
Siskovic dijo que el FBI está investigando un posible asalto a un oficial federal y ayudó a ICE en la búsqueda del sospechoso.

TENNESSEE (Tennessean) — Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents fired shots and injured a man driving a box truck outside a Food Lion in Antioch on Thursday morning, an FBI spokesman said.
ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said that around 7 a.m., ICE agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop to arrest a 39-year-old Mexican national who had been deported multiple times from the U.S.
At some point during the stop outside the business at 936 Richards Road, the man attempted to flee and drove toward an officer, Cox said.
“When the man realized the officers were immigration agents, he fled the scene, driving toward one of the officers who was standing in front of the truck,” Cox said. “I’m not sure if he (the agent) had to dive out of the way or was hurt.”
According to the FBI, which is leading the investigation, that agent fired two shots at the truck.
The man escaped the scene in the truck, which was later found down the road in a mobile home park on Honolulu Road, just off Waikiki Boulevard, Cox said.
The man surrendered to the FBI on Thursday afternoon, an ICE spokesman said.
The 39-year-old man, who is from Veracruz, suffered two gunshot wounds and was in stabled condition at a Nashville hospital Thursday night, said immigration attorney Andrew Free.
As of late Thursday night he was not under arrest, FBI Special Agent Joel Siskovic said, and the FBI was not releasing additional information about his surrender.
The truck was found with at least two bullet holes and blood inside, officials said.
Siskovic said the FBI is investigating a potential assault on a federal officer and assisted ICE in the search for the suspect.
Metro Nashville police had the scene at the Food Lion taped off late Thursday morning but said they were not assisting the FBI in the search.
Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers were also on the scene and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was also offering limited assistance, a spokesman said.
Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said officers responded to an ICE agent’s report of an officer’s “weapon discharging” about 7 a.m.
A dispatcher said the call came in as an immigration issue.
