Zelenskyy asks Le Pen to admit she was wrong in conflict with Russia

Paris, Apr 20 (EFE).- Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that France’s far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen should admit that she misread the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

“If the candidate understands that she was wrong, our relationship could change,” Zelenskyy said according to excerpts from an interview that French channel BFMTV will broadcast on Thursday.

He said that he has good relations with incumbent president Emmanuel Macron and “did not want to lose them,” when asked about his favorite candidate in the runoff for the French presidency on Sunday.

During the campaign, Le Pen has been haunted by her historic admiration of Vladimir Putin.

She has tried to distance herself from the Russian leader since his invasion of Ukraine.

Le Pen has been banned from entering Ukraine since 2017 after she tried to justify Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

In the BFMTV interview, Zelenskyy insisted that the war with Russia did not start on 24 February, but “eight years ago”, when Russia annexed Crimea and the Moscow-supported Donbas separatists rebelled. EFE
