BTS presents new single in English loaded with optimism

Seoul, Aug 21 (efe-epa).- South Korean group BTS released “Dynamite,” a new single sung for the first time entirely in English with which the male band wants to send “a message full of happiness and confidence” to its followers in a moment marked by the pandemic.

“It was not in our plans to release it, but it is a song designed to make you feel good and we feel that it would be great to share this with the fans,” RM, leader of the group, said in an online press conference.

“People are going through hard times, we hope it is therapeutic,” explained Jungkook, the youngest of the seven members of the band.

The song, which will be performed by the group at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 30, is an energetic and carefree cut loaded with references to the disco sound of the ‘70s.

Singing entirely in English has been an opportunity to “try something new,” said Jimin, who the band and their label, Big Hit Entertainment, have appointed “project director” for the new studio album that BTS will release in the last trimester.

In addition to the new album, the group will premiere their new documentary “Break the silence: The movie Persona” in September, as Jungkook himself said at the virtual press conference.

The band also recently announced that it will hold two face-to-face concerts on Oct. 10 and 11 in Seoul with limited capacity, although no further details have been offered at a time marked by a further increase in COVID-19 cases in South Korea.

In June, the band performed an online concert after it had been indefinite postponed. It was part of their tour “Map of the Soul” which should have started in April but was halted over the coronavirus pandemic.

The oldest member of the band, Jin, sent a Friday message of encouragement to the “Army,” a name given to the group’s followers: “despite the difficulties, let’s try to move forward,” he said. EFE-EPA
