French journalist killed in Luhansk region covering evacuation operation

Kyiv, May 30 (EFE).- A French journalist was killed by Russian forces in the Luhansk region of Ukraine, the regional governor, Serhiy Haidai, reported on Monday.

Haidai said Frédéric Leclerc Imhoff was killed during an evacuation operation that he was covering and that had to be suspended after the attack.

“Today our armored evacuation vehicle was going to pick up 10 people from the area and came under enemy fire,” Serhiy Haidai wrote on Telegram.

“Shrapnel from shells pierced the armor of the car. A fatal wound to the neck was received by an accredited French journalist who was covering the evacuation,” he added.

Haidai said the journalist’s accreditation showed that Imhoff was working in Ukraine for French TV channel BFMTV.

The French foreign ministry said it was looking into the reports of the journalist’s death.EFE
