Germany commits $40 million for war-ravaged Ukraine’s reconstruction

Berlin, Apr 22 (EFE).- Germany will give 37 million euros ($40 million) in aid to restore the damaged electricity network and build houses for millions of internally displaced people in Ukraine devastated by the Russian invasion.

Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper reported on Friday, citing Development Minister Svenja Schulze, that Ukraine urgently needed to reconstruct a power grid and housing for those internally displaced by the war.

“It is where the German development cooperation can help in the short term,” Schulze told the newspaper.

She said her ministry had reallocated funds from an emergency program to rebuild the war-ravaged Ukraine.

Of these 37 million euros, 22.5 million will be used to restore the electricity grid damaged by the Russian attacks, 12.4 million to construct houses for the displaced Ukrainians, and another two million for medical equipment.

“The reconstruction of Ukraine will be an effort that will require the solidarity of many. It is good that the international community is already tackling this task,” Schulze said ahead of the World Bank meeting on Friday.

She recalled that the World Bank was founded to rebuild Europe after the Second World War and added that now it could help Ukraine. EFE
