MEMPHIS, TN (WREG) — Memphis Police said shots were fired at a vehicle on a Memphis highway Thursday afternoon.
Memphis Police responded to the area of Sam Cooper and North Perkins just before 2 p.m.
No one was injured, but the vehicle’s rear windows were shot out.
The victim said a man or a woman in a tan SUV fired shots at his vehicle. There is no word on why the victim was attacked.
Officers closed down the eastbound lanes of Sam Cooper between Graham and Perkins as they searched for evidence. Sam Cooper reopened a short time later.
This is the first report of a highway shooting in the city of Memphis in 2020.
There were 46 shooting incidents on Memphis highways and interstates in 2019. Eight of them just recently came to light, after WREG submitted a records request.
When asked why they didn’t release information regarding these incidents, Memphis police said they don’t publicize every shooting, particularly if someone wasn’t killed or seriously injured.
