Over 50 Spanish health workers test positive for Covid-19 after social events

Madrid, Dec 16 (EFE).- Over 50 healthcare workers across Spanish hospitals have tested positive and nearly 80 are in isolation after social events, health authorities announced Thursday.

Thirty two of them are medical personnel at the Severo Ochoa hospital in Madrid who got infected after 50 health workers gathered at a country house over the weekend.

Five others are from the Alcorcón hospital in Madrid and 18 from the Santiago de Compostela hospital in the capital of Spain’s northwest Galicia region.

The Santiago outbreak occurred at a dinner on December 7, which was attended by over a hundred people.

The hospital management said it was not aware of the event, which went against guidelines established by the medical service.

All the affected have mild symptoms and none require hospital admission, the hospitals reported.

Hospital staff across departments have been redistributed to cover for the missing personnel.

These outbreaks come after 80 health workers from a Malaga hospital tested positive after attending a staff Christmas party last week.

Most of the health workers infected are doctors and nurses working in the intensive care unit at Malaga regional hospital. EFE
