Two New Developments Could be Coming to Frayser

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/WMC) — Dos organizaciones sin fines de lucro anunciaron importantes planes esta noche que podrían tener un gran impacto en la juventud en Frayser.

Girls, Inc. de Memphis y Porter-Leath quieren expandir sus servicios en la comunidad.

Las dos organizaciones sin fines de lucro solicitaron un permiso especial con la junta de Control de Uso de la Tierra.

Girls, Inc. de Memphis planea expandir su granja comunitaria en Frayser, cerca de las calles Dellwood y Baskin.

En la actualidad, un equipo agrícola de aproximadamente 20 niñas cosecha miles de libras de frutas y verduras orgánicas como sandía, maíz, col rizada, okra y arándanos.

La organización sin fines de lucro planea comenzar a cultivar en 6 acres adicionales. También planean construir 3 edificios en el sitio que incluye un centro de Girls, Inc., oficinas administrativas y espacios de reunión comunitaria para una variedad de nuevos programas.

“Vamos a tener una cocina de enseñanza, por lo que nuestras niñas educarán a la comunidad sobre cómo llevar de la granja a la mesa aquí mismo en este espacio”, dijo Lisa Moore, Directora Ejecutiva de Girls, Inc. de Memphis.

Justo al otro lado de la calle de la granja comunitaria Girls, Inc., la organización sin fines de lucro Porter-Leath quiere construir un nuevo centro de cuidado infantil para atender a casi 250 niños de 6 meses a 5 años. Christopher Woodard quien vive al otro lado de la calle de los dos proyectos propuestos y dice eso es exactamente lo que esta comunidad necesita.

Las dos organizaciones sin fines de lucro se reunirán con la junta de control del uso de la tierra el próximo mes.

Girls, Inc. espera comenzar el campus Patricia C. Howard a principios de 2020 y completarlo a fines de 2020 o principios de 2021.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — Two non-profits announced major plans tonight that could have a big impact on children in Frayser.

Girls, inc of Memphis and Porter- Leath want to expand their services in the community.

The two non-profits applied for a special permit with the Land Use Control board.

Girls, inc. of Memphis plans to expand its’ community farm in Frayser near Dellwood and Baskin streets.

Currently a farm crew of about 20 girls harvest thousands of pounds of organic fruits and vegetables such as watermelon, corn, kale, okra and blueberries.

The non-profit plans to start farming on an additional 6 acres. The organization also plans to build 3 buildings on site which which include a Girls, inc. center, administrative offices, and community meeting spaces for a variety of new programs.

“We’re going to have a teaching kitchen, so our girls will be educating the community on how to take farm to table right here in the same space,” said the CEO of Girls, inc of Memphis Lisa Moore.

Just across the street from the Girls, inc community farm, the non-profit Porter- Leath wants to build a new childcare center to serve nearly 250 children ages 6 months to 5. Christopher Woodard lives across the street from the two proposed developments and says this is exactly what this community needs.

The two non-profits will go before the land use control board next month.

Girls, Inc. hopes to break ground on the Patricia C. Howard campus by early 2020 and complete by the end of 2020 or early 2021.
