London, Mar 21 (efe-epa).- At least 36 people were arrested during a protest against ongoing coronavirus lockdown restrictions in London, the Metropolitan Police Service confirmed Sunday.
Met deputy assistant commissioner Laurence Taylor said that most of the arrests made Saturday were for violations of virus regulations, with many at the demonstration not wearing face masks or complying with social distancing policies.
A group of 100 people threw bottles and other objects, injuring several officers, according to Taylor.
“It is totally unacceptable and saddening that officers enforcing regulations that are there to protect us all were the victims of violent attacks,” added Taylor.
Thousands of people took part in the protest marching from Hyde Park to St Paul’s Cathedral and back to Westminster.
Among those who joined the rally were English actor Laurence Fox and Piers Corbyn, brother of former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn. EFE-EPA
