Russian troops kill 10 civilians queueing up for bread in Chernihiv

Odesa, Ukraine, Mar 16 (EFE).- At least 10 civilians Wednesday were shot dead by Russian forces while standing in line to buy bread in the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv, Ukrainian authorities said.

“In Chernihiv, Russian troops fired on people standing in line for bread: at least 10 dead,” the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection tweeted.

The United States embassy in Kyiv condemned the attack.

“Today, Russian forces shot and killed 10 people standing in line for bread in Chernihiv. Such horrific attacks must stop. We are considering all available options to ensure accountability for any atrocity crimes in Ukraine,” the embassy posted on Twitter, urging US citizens to “depart Ukraine immediately if it is safe using ground transportation.”

Ukrainian authorities said Wednesday two-thirds of airstrikes launched by Russian troops are hitting civilian buildings and infrastructure. EFE
