Durant leads USA to semifinals with victory over Spain

Tokyo, Aug 3 (EFE).- The United States men’s basketball team ended Spain’s run for a fifth consecutive Olympic Games on Tuesday.

Team USA won 95-81 in the quarterfinal of the men’s 5×5 basketball thanks to Kevin Durant’s 29 points.

He was ably supported by the US’ stellar squad, four of whom — Jrue Holiday, Damian Lillard, Zach Levine and Jaysom Tatum, scored double digits.

It was a bitterly disappointing evening for Spain’s star Ricky Rubio, whose whopping 38 points – a record for the Spanish team – were not enough to avoid defeat.

The loss in the last 8 means Spain also see a run of three consecutive medal finishes at the Olympics after reaching the final in 2008 and 2012 and making the last four at Rio 2016.

The Americans will face the winner of the match between Australia and Argentina, the last of Tuesday’s quarterfinal clashes. EFE
