Duro fires up Valencia to snatch late 3-3 draw against Atletico

Madrid Sports Desk, Nov 7 (EFE).- A last-minute brace from super-sub Hugo Duro steered Valencia to a 3-3 home draw against Atletico Madrid in their Sunday La Liga encounter.

The visitors took the lead in the 35th minute, when Luis Suarez made the most of an Angel Correa pass, getting the better of French defender Mouctar Diakhaby to send the ball home after deflecting off the right post.

The Uruguayan’s strike was the lone bright spot in a mostly slow first half, with the contest saving all the action for its later stages.

Five minutes into the second half, Valencia got onto the scoreboard thanks to an own-goal from Montenegro defender Stefan Savic, who inadvertently deflected home a cross by Portuguese forward Goncalo Guedes.

The Rojiblancos hit back, however, scoring twice over just two minutes, as the Frenchman fired home from outside the area with a nice left-footed shot and the Croatian defender increased the tally punishing the host for poor defense.

Duro was inserted with five minutes to go before second-half stoppage time, a move that proved to be a game-changer as the Spanish forward scored twice after the 90-minute mark.

First, he scored on a counter-attack in the second minute of stoppage time, and five minutes later he headed home off a Guedes cross from a set-piece.

With the draw, Atletico are fourth in the La Liga table with 23 points in 12 games, while Valencia are 10th with 17 points in 13 matches.
