Spain police arrest members of gang that used candy stores to sell narcotics

Sevilla, Spain, Dec 29 (EFE).- Spanish police said Wednesday they had detained 35 people suspected of running a drug-dealing operation in which they used minors to hawk narcotics in areas frequented by adolescents, sometimes using candy shops as a selling point.

Spain’s Civil Guard police said the arrests took place in Sevilla, in the south of the country, following an operation that began in April. They added that 15 people had been jailed.

Agents raided 23 properties and dismantled a supply chain that sold cocaine, heroin, cannabis and methamphetamines.

Police said the suspects used minors to sell the drugs in a bid to not arouse suspicion while targeting areas popular with adolescents such as youth centers.

The network also used candy stores to sell drugs, police said. During a raid on one of the stores police found enough high-quality cocaine to sell 800 doses.

Police also seized weapons, 90,000 euros ($101,551) in cash, a motorcycle and several stolen goods. EFE
