Three women killed in shooting at bar in Rome

Rome, Dec 11 (EFE).- At least three women were killed and four others were wounded after a man opened fire at a bar in Rome on Sunday.

The wounded have been transferred to various hospitals in Rome, including a 50-year-old woman suffering a serious head injury.

The woman has undergone surgery and was admitted to the resuscitation unit at the Sant’Andrea Hospital, according to health official Alessio D’Amato.

The other three injured people comprise a 67-year-old man with a facial injury, an 80-year-old woman with a chest injury, and a 65-year-old man who lost consciousness during the incident.

Confirming the incident, Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri sent his condolences to the victims’ families and condemned this “extremely serious episode of violence that has struck the city.”

The shooting occurred at 9:30 am in a bar in the north of the Italian capital, where a residents’ meeting was being held.

Eyewitnesses told local media that a 57-year-old man entered the bar and began shooting the fellow residents before he was disarmed and arrested by paramilitary policemen.

Reasons behind the incidents are not yet known, but initial investigations suggest there have been disputes between the alleged gunman and the managers of the apartment building he lives.EFE
