Gov. Lee to Sign ELVIS Act in Downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) — To protect music and the Tennessee artists who create it from the copyright theft of artificial intelligence (AI), Gov. Bill Lee will sign a new law into effect on Thursday.
The Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security (ELVIS) Act prohibits people from using AI to replicate a performer’s voice without their permission. The new law adds the artist’s voice to existing image and likeness protections in Tennessee.
The ELVIS Act was introduced in January and gained sponsors in Rep. William Lamberth and Sen. Jack Johnson. The bills HB 2091/SB 2096 were both fully approved by both the State’s House and Senate members by March 7 and now await the Governor’s signature.
“When technology disrupts in a negative way, when it impacts those workers in a negative way, it’s really important to all of us,” Gov. Lee said when he first announced the ELVIS Act in January. “This is a threat to an industry that has made Tennessee globally known.”
Gov. Lee will sign the ELVIS Act into law at Robert’s Wester World.

La Ley de Garantía de Seguridad de Imagen y Voz (ELVIS) prohíbe a las personas utilizar IA para replicar la voz de un artista sin su permiso. La nueva ley añade la voz del artista a las protecciones de imagen y semejanza existentes en Tennessee.
La Ley ELVIS se introdujo en enero y obtuvo patrocinadores: el representante William Lamberth y el senador Jack Johnson. Los proyectos de ley HB 2091/SB 2096 fueron aprobados en su totalidad por los miembros de la Cámara y el Senado del estado el 7 de marzo y ahora esperan la firma del Gobernador.
“Cuando la tecnología interrumpe de manera negativa, cuando impacta a esos trabajadores de manera negativa, es realmente importante para todos nosotros”, dijo el gobernador Lee cuando anunció por primera vez la Ley ELVIS en enero. “Esta es una amenaza para una industria que ha hecho que Tennessee sea mundialmente conocido”.
El gobernador Lee promulgará la Ley ELVIS en Robert’s Wester World.
