Ecuadorian duo tops third freestyle round with music in Santiago

Santiago, Oct 25 (EFE) – Ecuadorian rider Julio Mendoza and his horse, Jewel’s Goldstrike, dominated the third freestyle round with music at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games on Wednesday.
The Ecuadorian pair clinched the top spot in the event held at the Regimiento Granaderos Riding School in Quillota, scoring a total of 87,230 points.
The second place went to Brazilian jockey Joao Marcari and his horse Feel Good VO, finishing with 86,160 points. Following them was American Anna Marek and her mount Fire Fly, garnering 81,305 points.
Mendoza also topped the intermediate dressage test Monday, accumulating 78,617 points, while Marcari trailed closely with 78,362 points.
On Sunday, Marcari led the initial round of the competition with 76,478 points. In that round, Mendoza landed in fifth place with a total of 73,935 points.
However, the United States team, comprising Marek, Sarah Tubman, Christian Simonson, and Codi Harrison, won the team gold medal and secured their spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Both Brazil and Canada secured the second and third places respectively, and they too qualified for Paris.
The equestrian events are overseen by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), an organization with which EFE has a content-sharing agreement. EFE
