Elvis Week 2020 Goes Virtual

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — For the first time in history, and due to the coronavirus pandemic, “Elvis Week” will go virtual this year. Obviously, there will be a few events that will take place at Graceland, including “The Candlelight Vigil,” although with a very limited visitor capacity in order to comply with the practice of social distancing.
As Graceland announced in a press release, “given the current circumstances surrounding the health crisis, as well as within the Elvis/Graceland Family, we have decided to significantly modify ‘Elvis Week,’ eliminating any potential high-risk activity, including live performances, live appearances, group parties or meals, autograph signings and meet & greets. Our modified ‘Elvis Week 2020’ schedule, and first-ever ‘Virtual Elvis Week’ option, will allow fans to participate in ‘Elvis Week’ and celebrate the life and legacy of Elvis Presley in the way they deem most appropriate for themselves.”
For those fans of the “King of Rock and Roll” who plan to go to Graceland during “Elvis Week 2020,” there will be a series of daily events with film screenings, panel discussions, interviews, concerts, and contests (“The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest”) between August 8 and August 16. All programming will be pre-recorded.
The traditional “Candlelight Vigil,” meanwhile, will be held on Saturday, August 15, but with fewer people than in previous years, of course. In fact, free reservations must be made in advance for this event.
“Elvis Week” day passes are $50. Each of these tickets includes a Mansion tour after 2 p.m., Elvis’ planes and all-day access to Elvis Presley’s Memphis; access to any screening event scheduled for a single day is also included.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Por primera vez en la historia, y debido a la pandemia del coronavirus, la celebración de “La Semana de Elvis” será virtual este año. Obviamente, habrá uno que otro evento que tendrá lugar en Graceland, incluyendo el de la “Vigilia con Velas” (The Candlelight Vigil), aunque con una capacidad muy limitada de visitantes para poder así cumplir con la práctica del distanciamiento social.
Según anunció Graceland en un comunicado de prensa, “dadas las circunstancias actuales a raíz de la crisis sanitaria, hemos decidido modificar significativamente ‘La Semana de Elvis’ (Elvis Week), eliminando cualquier actividad potencial de alto riesgo, como las presentaciones en vivo, las fiestas o eventos con comida y las firmas de autógrafos, entre otros acontecimientos. Nuestra programación modificada de ‘La Semana de Elvis 2020’, así como para la primera ‘Semana Virtual de Elvis’, permitirá a los fanáticos participar y celebrar la vida y el legado de Elvis Presley de la manera que consideren más apropiada para ellos”.
Para los fans del “Rey del Rock and Roll” que planeen ir a Graceland durante “La Semana de Elvis 2020”, se estará dando la oportunidad de disfrutar de una serie de eventos diarios con proyecciones de películas, paneles de discusión, entrevistas, competencias de artistas que le rinden tributo a Elvis (“The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest”) y conciertos entre el 8 y el 16 de agosto. Toda la programación será pregrabada.
La tradicional “Vigilia con Velas”, por su parte, será realizada el sábado, 15 de agosto, pero con menos gente que en años anteriores, por supuesto. De hecho, se requiere hacer reservaciones con tiempo para poder estar esa noche en el Jardín de la Meditación.
Los boletos de un día para “Elvis Week” cuestan $50. Cada una de estas entradas incluye el recorrido por la Mansión de Graceland, después de las 2 p.m., y acceso a los aviones de Elvis y al complejo turístico de Elvis Presley’s Memphis; las proyecciones de películas, charlas, conciertos y competencias que estén pautadas para cada día también están incluidas.
