Memphis Mom Recounts Her 11-Month-Old Child Crawling Out of Daycare

MEMPHIS, TN (FOX 13 News) — The mother of a 11-month-old baby said her child crawled outside of a daycare before being discovered by a man at a gas station nearby.
“A lady was there, and she said, ‘No, take a picture first before you go ahead and get this,’” said Amber Giles, the mother.
Giles said the incident happened while her son, Amir Giles, was in the care of Building Blocks Academy.
“He says he picked him up, put him in the little window and said, ‘Hey, y’all have a baby out here.’ He said someone came to the door and said, ‘We don’t have a baby out here.’ And another lady said, ‘Oh, I didn’t even know he was here,’” Giles said.
But Giles said that the story she was told by her child’s teacher did not coincide with the one she got from the man who discovered her child.
“She tried to say she discovered Amir being outside. She says, ‘Oh, it was less than a second,’” she said.
The Tennessee Department of Human Services issued the following statement:
“The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS), Child Care Licensing Team is aware of the incident involving Building Blocks Academy and a child in their care. The Tennessee Department of Human Services will assist law enforcement and other authorities in their investigation of the situation as needed. The TDHS Child Care Licensing Team investigates within the parameters of child care licensing rules and regulations, and will take any necessary action as a result. No further information is available at this time.”
