Escuela secundaria local revela marcador histórico

Local High School Unveils Historic Marker

OLIVE BRANCH, MS (localmemphis.com) — Alumni from a notable Mid-South school unveiled a historical marker Saturday.

East Side High School was created in 1958 because most black kids before then were getting their education at homes and churches.

Alumni gathered outside of the school, now named Olive Branch Intermediate School, to reveal the new marker.

“This is in honor of everyone that touched this ground in some form and I certainly want to thank you all for supporting me in that effort, and I know now that as far as East Side goes., everyone knows where they went to high school,” said one speaker.

East Side served the important role of giving minority children a place to learn until 1970 when mandatory integration shifted students to Olive Branch High School.
