Jeff Bezos to fly to space on first manned flight

Washington, Jun 7 (EFE).- Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will travel to space with his brother on the first human flight launched by his company Blue Origin.

“Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of traveling to space. On July 20, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend,” Bezos wrote in an Instagram post.

His brother Mark said it was a “remarkable opportunity not only to have this adventure but to be able to do it with my best friend” in the video posted on Instagram.

“To see the earth from space, it changes you, it changes your relationship with this planet, with humanity, it is one earth,” Bezos, the richest person on earth according to Forbes, said in the video.

The founder of one of the world’s biggest e-commerce sites started Blue Origin in 2000. On July 20 New Shepard – the name of the vehicle – will fly its first manned flight to space.

The company is offering one extra seat to the winning bidder of an online auction. According to the Blue Origin site, the bid had reached $2.8 million dollars when Bezos announced his flight plan.

The flight comes two weeks after Bezos will step down as CEO of Amazon. On July 5, his successor Andy Jassor will take over as CEO and Bezos will serve as executive chairman of the e-commerce giant he founded 30 years ago.
