EU, Nato discuss cooperation ahead of Madrid summit

Brussels, Jun 20 (EFE).- Nato and the European Commission on Monday discussed bilateral cooperation and support for Ukraine ahead of the Alliance’s Madrid summit.

“Great to welcome (the EC) President Ursula Von der Leyen before the #NATOSummit in Madrid next week,” Nato secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg posted on Twitter.

“#NATO & the #EU stand together with the Ukrainians, as they continue to defend themselves against #Russia’s brutal war. We will continue supporting our close partner #Ukraine for the long haul,” the Norwegian politician added.

“Good to meet with NATO SG Jens Stoltenberg to prepare next week’s summit in Madrid,” Von der Leyen tweeted.

“EU-NATO cooperation is crucial to continue to strengthen Europe’s defence, from increased interoperability to military mobility. We stand united in our support to the Ukraine,” she added.

The EU will be invited to participate in the Madrid summit as one of the Alliance’s closest partners. EFE
