Pop culture takes center stage at Comic Con Panama 2022

Panama City, Aug 27 (EFE).- Cosplay, gaming, hyperrealism and other expressions of pop and geek culture on Saturday attracted a crowd to Comic Con Panama 2022, the third edition of this event, which returned after a two-year gap due to the pandemic.

“My hobby is cosplay, I am passionate about it…. It’s a way of life,” Yarisel told EFE as she attended the event dressed as Draka – the brave warrior of the video game Warcraft – at the Panama Convention Center accompanied by her little son on Saturday.

Old and young people thronged the majestic new convention center of Panama City, to take part in the cosplaying of fictional characters.

Exploring the sections dedicated to video games, the hyperreality tour or the virtual reality room, one would come across a metal suit Batman, multicolored, playful and sometimes hypersexualized anime characters, and multiple Darth Vaders, a must-have character in these events.

The Peruvian artist Walt Wizard, exponent of hyperrealism, in an interaction with EFE expressed his joy at being, for the second time, a guest at the Comic Con Panama 2022.

“Hyperrealism is an artistic current in which one seeks the best material and technique to make a character that seems to have life, out of a film,” explained the industrial engineer who now travels the world developing his “artistic passion.”

The Comic Con Panama 2022, which runs until Sunday, features international guest artists, including Spanish actor Enrique Arce, from the series “Money Heist” and American actor Mason Dye, from the series “Stranger Things.”

It also features an Artist Alley, with about 30 Panamanian artists exhibiting their works; academic workshops, where talks and lectures are held by artists and invited experts; a Collector’s Zone with an exhibition collectibles, and a space dedicated to non-fungible tokens or NFTs. EFE
