Mane keeps Liverpool in hunt for PL title in 2-2 draw with Man. City
Sports Desk, Apr 10 (EFE).- Sadio Mane on Sunday jumped to the rescue of Liverpool as league leader Manchester City failed to capitalize on its first-half dominance, having to settle for a 2-2 draw that maintained the status quo in the race for the Premier League title.
City got off to a good start to move closer to the title, as Kevin De Bruyne gave them the lead five minutes into the game on a shot that deflected off Joel Matip into the back of the net.
Eight minutes later, Liverpool go onto the scoreboard thanks to Diogo Jota’s close-range shot off a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The home side regained the lead in the 36th minute when Gabriel Jesus fired home from close range off a nice cross from Joao Cancelo.
Manchester City could have gone to the intermission with a bigger lead if it were not for key interventions from Alisson and a lack of precision on the final touch.
Shortly after the break, Mane scored the equalizer off a clever pass from Mohamed Salah.
The VAR denied City a third goal that was disallowed as Raheem Sterling was ruled offside while scoring shortly after the one-hour mark.
The draw maintained City’s one-point advantage over second-placed Liverpool with seven games to go.
