Russia reports record daily Covid death toll for 3rd consecutive day

Moscow, Jul 15 (EFE).- Russia on Thursday recorded 791 Covid-19 deaths, hitting record levels for the third consecutive day, as well as 25,293 new infections nationwide.

The number of deaths linked to coronavirus have rapidly spiked in July bringing the total tally in Russia to 146,069 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic.

The previous record in Russia was set on Wednesday, with 786 deaths, most of which were reported in Moscow (101) and Saint Petersburg (108).

According to a mapping of infections by United States-based Johns Hopkins University, Russia has had a total of 5,882,295 Covid-19 infections, making it the fifth most affected country in the world, behind the US, India, Brazil, and France.

Over 28 million people in Russia have received at least a first jab of a Covid-19 vaccine, according to authorities.

Some 25 of Russia’s 85 regions have made vaccination mandatory for certain sectors, such as healthcare workers.

According to the Moscow city administration, 70% of healthcare workers in the capital have been vaccinated, as well as 66% of teachers and education staff. EFE
