Explosion in northeast China kills at least 1, injures 33

Beijing, Oct 21 (EFE).- A Thursday explosion in a restaurant in the city of Shenyang, in northeast China, killed at least one person and injured 33, according to state television CCTV.

The blast occurred at about 8:20 a.m. local time (0.20 GMT) and, according to images provided by CCTV, caused serious damage to nearby buildings and cars.

The explosion exposed the concrete structure of the buildings, it said.

The local fire department went to the scene of the blast and evacuated residents.

A Weibo social media user from the city said the incident “felt like an earthquake”.

Although the Chinese state media initially pointed to gas as a possible cause of the incident, it is still being investigated. EFE
